Photographic Inspiration

I have been living and working in Belgium …

for the last five and a half years and found it to have no real inspiration for me and my photography. Now, I fully accept that that is entirely my fault not Belgium’s! This is why I have quit my job and moved North to my house in Northern Sweden.

Since coming here …

I have been shooting almost continuously and it is a great feeling! I have been out exploring the countryside where I live and find photographic inspiration everywhere I look. I have been here about two months and already have a large backlog of images that I want to shoot.

Of course, there are problems here …

I live so close to the Norwegian Fjords that I feel myself drawn to them and they are a much more spectacular backdrop than the scenery in Sweden. Nevertheless, I do find great inspiration here in North Sweden and I suspect that this will improve when the snows come in a couple of months.

I am shooting …

long exposure images, timelapse images and Infra Red images and finding inspiration for all three shooting styles. I have even been out at midnight recently to shoot star trails following a few clear nights here. There is Photographic Inspiration in almost everything!

I was coming back from Umea …

the other day and decided to check out the ferry to Holmon Island, this is a photographic trip that has been in my mind for a while. So I drove off the E4 for about 15km along dirt roads to the ferry and was dumbstruck by the beauty but on the way back I saw a sign pointing to Skeppsvik and went another 11km to check it out … well, what a place? It does seem that literally everywhere has photographic inspiration – it is just plain stunning.

So, what is that gives you the inspiration …

to get out and shoot? What is that makes you feel excitement as you are going to shoot? I think that this is an interesting question and I am keen to hear from you all.

Here is a link to find out more about Skeppsvik …

I could only find this in Swedish!
